Here's a wide shot. Normally there is a planer sitting near the boat. We cleared out a spot to set the boat while we dismantled the building form. In preparation for turning her over, I removed four of the seven station molds and all of the bracing. Glued lapstrake boats are wonderfully light; we just picked her up, rolled her over, and set her down. I had a very able crew - my wife Tara, my business partner Don, and friends Bryan and Megan. And here she is, resting gently on some old comforters. Total time, about five minutes! In the left foreground is artist Carolyn Wenning, one of the artists in residence at the Slaughterhouse Gallery, who photographed the event and shot some short videos. What a nice line at the bow! The hull is resting on two pair of chocks spiled to the hull and screwed to the deck. I'm not sure if she is too low to work on comfortably, but I wanted her weight resting on her keel. Grinning happily are, left to right, Megan, Bryan, and Tara. Here's another bow view. To continue with the story, click here. |
